Auction Platform Guide
Our auction system is designed specifically for Cape Town reefkeepers to trade healthy corals and gear with total transparency and fairness.
1. Magic Link Access
We don't use passwords. Simply enter your email address and click the secure link sent to your inbox. You will then provide your cellphone number once—this ensures accountability and makes it easy for winners and sellers to connect via WhatsApp.
2. How Bidding Works
Every bid must be at least R5 higher than the current price (or the starting price if no bids exist). When you place your first bid on an item, you are automatically registered for that auction.
3. The Anti-Snipe Rule
To prevent 'sniping' (bidding at the last second to win without competition), any bid placed in the final 5 minutes of an auction will automatically extend the end time by another 5 minutes. This continues until no more bids are placed.
4. After the Auction Ends
Once the timer hits zero, the highest bidder wins (provided the hidden reserve price was met). The seller will instantly receive the winner's cellphone number. The seller is then responsible for contacting the winner via WhatsApp to arrange payment and collection.
5. Ethics & Rules
By using the platform, you agree to: - Honor your bids. Non-paying winners will be blacklisted. - Represent items honestly. Sellers must accurately describe the health and condition of listings. - Pay within 24 hours of the auction ending unless otherwise agreed.
6. Reserve Prices
Sellers may set a 'Reserve Price'. If the bidding does not reach this amount, the item will not be sold. The reserve price is always hidden from bidders.
